The South Asian community of Bengal organized a condolence meeting at Place de la Gare-Jean-Talon in Montreal, Canada, on the 25th of July 2025 for the students, guardians and people died in the unfortunate tragic accident happened on the 21st of July 2025 in Dhaka.



About 50 people including children and community leaders from both the wings of Bengal participated in the mourning ceremony. Dr. Shishir Bhattacharya, Ranjit Mazumder, Mohsin Reza and Dipa, were among them. Mr. Asad Noor, blogger from Halifax, Nova Scotia, also participated in the program.





Organization of the mourning ceremony was initiated by Farhana Sumi, an expatriate Bangladeshi in Montreal and she was assisted by two expatriates from both wings of Bengal: Syeda Zohora Shammi and Kamrin Kazi from Bangladesh and West Bengal respectively.
The local city councilor, Ms. Mary Deros also shared her grief and pain with the community. She has been serving the community for 30 years. In her somber speech, she questioned Bangladesh authorities for the tragic incident and demanded answers from them and also disclosing the investigation report of the tragic event to the public.
The participants and community leaders expressed their grief, condolence to the departed young souls of Milestone School. They also vented their grievances to the Government of Bangladesh and the concerned authorities in their failure to ensure safety of the students and citizens of the country.
All of them urged the government and authorities to make and implement fast rules to ensure safety of the people and especially the children and students. They demanded immediate measures to the end so that there is no such horrific incident happen in the country.
In honor of the departed young souls, the participants lighted candles and sang the national anthem of Bangladesh while posters were hung on the chests of the participants with slogans of mourning, demands and questions to the authorities.
